Jodie Foster has admitted she finds Gen Z “annoying” in the workplace, but it’s not the end of the road when it comes to progression.
The Hollywood actress spoke to The Guardian about youngsters’ work ethic and said those in the Generation Z bracket (now aged between 12 and 27). She slammed the generations ‘inability’ to take constructive criticism. This, of course, hasn’t gone down too well with people online. On X (formerly Twitter) people have been hitting back at the movie star, with some even suggesting she should “retire.”

Jodie Foster calls Gen Z ‘annoying’
She explained she had found even pointing out spelling and grammatical mistakes in emails to those in the Gen Z generation got responses Jodie Foster found annoying.
“They’re really annoying, especially in the workplace,” the celebrity said. “They’re like, ‘Nah, I’m not feeling it today, I’m gonna come in at 10.30 am.
“Or, like, in emails, I’ll tell them this is all grammatically incorrect, did you not check your spelling? And they’re like, ‘Why would I do that, isn’t that kind of limiting?’”

Elsewhere in the interview, the TV actress said she would advise younger people to “learn to relax” and have a bit more of a go-with-the-flow approach to things.
She said: “They need to learn how to relax, how to not think about it so much, how to come up with something that’s theirs. I can help them find that, which is so much more fun than being, with all the pressure behind it, the protagonist of the story.”
People did not like Jodie’s stance
The 61-year-old seems to have offended many people of the Gen Z age bracket, who had some pretty harsh words for her. Some even suggested she ‘should retire.’
Someone else said: “Need to know who she is working with because if you’re working with phenomenal Hollywood actresses and talking like this….. [crying face emoji]. They have to be nepo babies, right? I don’t understand being in a position like this and not holding it with both hands with respect.”
Another wrote: “Isn’t it possible that Jodie Foster’s frustration with Gen Z’s work style is a result of a generation gap, and perhaps there’s value in their unconventional approach to work??”
A U-turn on her opinion
Despite saying she found Gen Z to be “annoying” she later said she “adored them” during a red carpet interview for the award show Golden Globes.
She told Entertainment Tonight reporter Kevin Frazier: “I adore them. They have all this freedom, which is wonderful, but we didn’t have. We didn’t know we could say no, for example, and it’s just created a miraculous, confident, different, authentic people.”
