16 years later, Britney Spears has revealed the reason she shaved her head in 2007, ahead of her conservatorship.
At the time of the drastic change, the music star was going through a difficult divorce with dancer, Kevin Federline. She’s now revealed what was going on in her mind during the painful time, in her anticipated celebrity memoir, The Woman in Me.

Speaking about why she shaved her head, the Toxic singer said it was her “way of pushing back.”
“I’d been eyeballed so much growing up. I’d been looked up and down, had people telling me what they thought of my body since I was a teenager.
“Shaving my head and acting out were my ways of pushing back,” she wrote in an expert of her upcoming memoir, The Woman in Me, obtained by PEOPLE.
However, she then went on to explain how she was “forbidden” from keeping her new look.
At the time, tabloids were writing about the way she looks and splashing it on front pages. Britney had grown up in the limelight, after becoming a child star through Disney.
Now, mental health is taken more seriously. People speak up and raise awareness about issues we all face, whether a Hollywood star or not.
But back when Britney was crying for help, not a lot of people listetened.
13 years under a strict conservatorship
A year later, the star was placed under a court-ordered conservatorship where her father, Jamie Spears, took control of her personal and financial affairs.
“Under the conservatorship, I was made to understand that those days were now over. I had to grow my hair out and get back into shape. I had to go to bed early and take whatever medication they told me to take,” she wrote.
The controversial conservatorship came to an end in November 2021, after 13 long years. It was propelled into the mainstream after her fans began the Free Britney movement. The day in which she gained control, the star said it was “the best day ever.”
Justin Timberlake ‘concerned’ about Britney’s memoir
Ahead of the release of the memoir on October 24, which is rumored to be narrated by a Hollywood star, reports state Britney’s ex, Justin Timberlake, “won’t be happy”. An insider claims the 41-year-old is on edge over Britney ‘candidly’ telling her story.
The celebrity couple dated from 1999 to 2002. Multiple sources say the Cry Me a River singer is “curious” and “concerned” about what will be written.
“He’s very curious what she’ll reveal from their relationship,” one source claims to Page Six. However, a publisher told the publication that the memoir is Britney finally getting a chance to tell her empowering story, and it’s nothing more than that.”
